The main activity of this department is providing necessary guidelines regarding food intake for the Diabetic patients. This is supported by analysing the patient's regular food habits and their routine work. Counselling being provided for selecting quantity, contents, type and frequency of intake of the food items. To make the patients more aware of these a diet chart is given to the patients by which they will adhere the regular and right food habits. Everyday a awareness class on diet is taken to know various food items which are most suitable for the diabetic patients.

The inpatients are under strict supervision of Dietician for their food requirements, this includes the quantity and quality of the food.It is also ensured that each patient's food requirement is fulfilled completely with necessary calories, fibre, protein, fat and suitable nutrients.Such food items are prepared in the kitchen which is equipped with sterlised utencils and modern machineries. This DIET KITCHEN feeds exclusively the Diabetic patient's food requirements is designed with high hygenic condition.

Obesity being the second major factor for the incidence of Diabetes this department has a wing as OBESITY CLINIC. Here the patients' BMI (Body Mass Index) is calculated by the values of height and weight. Also Fat mass of the patient is detected by an instrument which doesn't require blood sample. These findings will reveal the facts about whether a patient is normal or obese. There is also another simple method of finding obesity. This is called IBW (Ideal Body Weight) which is calculated by deducting 100 from height in Centemeters. Yet another method is calculating ratio with the values of hip and waist.

  • Under Weight = Below 20
  • Healthy = 20 to 24.9
  • Overweight Values = 25 to 29.9
  • Obese = 30 and Above

If a person is having a hight of 170 centimeters and weight of 85 Kilograms BMI = Weight in Kgs/Hight in Square Meters i.e., 85 / 1.7 x 1.7 = 29.7 This value shows this person is OVER WEIGHT and if the value goes up the person seems to be OBESE and requires proper Exercises,Food Habits and Medication.

Normal Value for Male = 25 % Normal Value for Female = 30 % If the values exceeding the above values then person requires regular Exercises and Food Habits .

If a person is having a height of 165 centimeters should have the bodyweight of 65 kgs. This is being calculated by deducting 100 from height. The Diabetic patients will have still lesser value of 5 units from the normal value Height = 165 cms, Weight = 70 kgs ,IBW = 165 -100 = 65 kgs This person seems to be Obese and requires regular Exercises and Food Habits.

Normal Values for Male = 0.85 and Female = 0.9 This is calculated by dividing waist value by hip value. The abnormal values shows the person is suffering from central Obesity and requires proper Exercises,Food Habits and/or Medication.
